Overview

Understanding Prostate Cancer

Prostate cancer commonly affects men, especially with increasing age. Some cases grow slowly, while others may spread and need active treatment.

Treatment depends on PSA level, biopsy findings, Gleason score, stage, symptoms, and overall health.

Proper staging and risk assessment are important before deciding treatment.

Types

Types of Prostate Cancer

Invasive Ductal Carcinoma (IDC)

The most common type — starts in the milk ducts and invades surrounding tissue. Accounts for about 80% of all breast cancer cases.

Invasive Lobular Carcinoma (ILC)

Begins in the lobules (milk-producing glands). Often harder to detect on imaging; requires careful clinical evaluation.

HER2-Positive Breast Cancer

Overexpresses the HER2 protein, making it more aggressive — but highly responsive to targeted therapies like trastuzumab (Herceptin).

Triple-Negative Breast Cancer

Lacks ER, PR, and HER2 receptors. More aggressive and treated primarily with chemotherapy and newer immunotherapy agents.

Hormone Receptor-Positive (HR+)

Fuelled by estrogen or progesterone. Responds well to hormone-blocking therapies such as tamoxifen or aromatase inhibitors.

Inflammatory Breast Cancer

A rare, rapidly progressing form that causes redness and swelling. Requires immediate, aggressive multimodal treatment.
